Lit aflame are these sparks larger than Everest herself

Containing eternity within the hour

You have made a pen of my fingers and ink out of my tears

I bit the chalice and swallowed the goblet without seeing

This fire is my friend, your voice an ember of my being

Whats the point in Faith if I can’t drink the poison like Khalid

You don’t need an ability to read to understand

God painted a few lines on my cheek with his hand

Flowing forth opulent pearls dripping off freshly wetted locks of hair

The sun glows off in the distance

A nice tint to the morning’s mystic glare

Soaring heavenward tearing a hundred veils each moment

We bring here to our room, the Queen of Sheeba’s chair

Without need for concrete steps, elevators, or highways to share

Floating throughout spacetime without any need or care

The roads to Love that once existed

Manage to vanish, into thin-air

If you have not trod on such a path, how could you know the lover’s secrets?

What do you know of the life of a lover, who lowers his head to the top of the gallows?

For them to bring you to that point of prostration.

first you must lather yourself in the water of your own blood

- Farid al-Din Attar

A tribe sent their chief to Khalid ibn al Walid (ra) to negotiate peace. He carried a small vial in his hands which Khalid observed and asked him about its contents. He said that there was a very strong poison inside the vial and he would consume it and commit suicide if the talks failed for he could not return to his people with bad news. Khalid found an ideal opportunity to further his objective. He asked the chief, “Are you confident that you will die immediately after you swallow the poison?” He replied, “I am sure of that. This poison is so strong that no one has so far described its taste because the moment anyone sips it, he dies. He does not live long enough after that to say how it tastes. So, I am very sure that I will die immediately after I put it on my tongue.”

Khalid ibn al Walid requested him to let him have the vial. Taking it into his hands he remarked, “Nothing in this world is efficacious unless Allah provides it with efficacy.” He took the name of Allah and made this-supplication:

“In the name of Allah with which nothing on earth or in the heaven can harm. And he is All hearing, All-knowing.”

he said, “I swallow this poison and you observe whether I die or not.” The chieftain exclaimed, “You are tormenting yourself. The poison is so strong and rapid that if a little of it is placed on the tongue. The man will perish, while you intend to swallow all of it.” The Sword of God confidently said, “Insha Allah, nothing will happen to me. ” he washed down his throat the contents of the vial. The chieftain observed the miracle and submitted himself before Allah, that is, he embraced Islam.

“The story of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba is about cross-cultural connection, and so is the art we make about them. Worldwide, it’s a basic human need to tell and retell our own legends—particularly those about the deceptions inherent in love (or lust or courtship) and its power to change our own beliefs—over, and over, and over again.”
