Sexual love is a connection not only with one’s partner, but with the fundamental beauty of life on planet Earth. Often times when I describe the sensual and transcendental aspects of sex, I find it helpful to use metaphors from nature as opposed to plain description of the acts. A lover’s touch is the summer heat moving through a canyon. A climax becomes the deepening red colours in a sunset, or a waterfall of pearls flowing from a lake in heaven’s alps. An embrace is like the soft inside petals of a dainty flower at dawn. Poetry transmutes some of the best images to represent the experience of healthy sexual love found everywhere in the natural world in this dimension, as well as others. Tuning into life’s natural beauty stimulates our senses, it enhances our awareness as well as enjoyment.

Outside
the moon kindles

over a humid summer meadow:
millions of fireflies, quietly flying

flickering their luminescence to one other

dancing to the slowly increasing magic of their closeness

with this new warm night.

Inside
in the dusk light

of this kitchen
whispering over the table,

moving closer to the soul with words,

& then to the echoed time of touching hands.

the motion of our fingers while talking creates a beginning

a place of sharing: the next moment’s caress
