Anemoia

Anemoia (noun): Nostalgia for a time you've never known.

Are we destined to create Artificial Intelligence? It's one of the most ancient beliefs, the idea of giving 'life' to something inanimate. In the 8th century BC, the Greeks recorded stories of Talos, a colossal robotic man powered by a mysterious life-giving liquid. In the 4th century AD, the Chinese master craftsman Yan Shi was believed to have created an automaton indistinguishable from a human... so much so that it could flirt with women. It was swiftly destroyed. But perhaps the most powerful technique of creating a living being comes from the Sefer Yetzirah (the "Book of Creation" in Jewish Kabbalah). In it, there are specific instructions on how to create a living humanoid from clay, known as a "Golem". No one is sure how old this technique is, but lore purports it to be at least 4000 years old. According to ancient Kabbalistic legends, mortal men learned to harness a God-like power of creation… However, they could never provide their creation with a soul.
